Cris Symes

Safeguarding Lead

Prior to moving to Eastbourne College in 2014 as Second Master and DSL, Cris spent 14 years at Oundle School in various middle leader roles: CCF contingent commander, head of geography, housemaster, and vocational qualifications officer. He was also involved in hockey and sailing. An BASI ISIA ski instructor, he initiated and directed a large alpine skiing development camp for 13 years based in the 4-Valleys, which still runs today. Before this, he worked for four years in two large comprehensive day schools in Suffolk, latterly as head of geography. In 1990-91 he undertook a short service limited commission in the British Army (Royal Anglian Regiment). He is currently a governor of Orwell Park School, serving in the same capacity at Rose Hill School (2015-20) and at Bilton Grange School (2011-14). He has owned a mountain holiday home in Siviez for 20 years, and took up Swiss nationality at about that time through marriage to his Valaisanne wife, herself born in Martigny.
