Skiing is in
our DNA

Skiing is an integral part of our sports offering during the winter season, with comprehensive skiing programmes, which provide opportunities for all levels to progress their skiing.

Students ski at least twice a week as part of their school week from January to the end of March in the biggest and possibly most beautiful ski area in Switzerland.

All our ski programmes are run in conjunction with the Ecole de Ski Suisse in Verbier and every ski group is accompanied and coached by a qualified professional ESS ski teacher.

Programmes to suit every ability

There are a number of different programmes which VIS offer at different stages in children’s development. Often we run courses in conjunction with local clubs and also local ski schools to provide a cohesive and supportive individual experience for each child.

The VIS ski programmes:

1.

Fun and Improvement

A great way to start skiing or simply enjoy the experience. Students’ techniques are improved by moving around the mountain in a safe and ability appropriate way.

This is offered from Pre-school to Class G and includes two half days per week with ESS instructors, snacks and drinks. Fun activities will take the place of skiing if skiing is deemed unsafe by our instructors.

2.

Ski Team

This occurs on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, although there may be optional Saturday sessions. There are two ski team streams:

Freeride
Freeride lessons with specialist instructors and a focus on technique, safety and correct use of equipment.

Ski race
Race training including gates, technique training, endurance in skiing, and different terrain. Students may be asked to compete in different races.

3.

Ski Academy

The VIS Ski Academy is for our most dedicated and high level skiers. Skiers ski on Wednesday and Friday afternoons as part of the VIS ski programme and ski on Tuesday afternoon, academic work permitting. There may also be optional Saturday training as well. There are 2 streams:

  • Freeride
  • Ski Race

For both streams there is an Autumn module which includes twice weekly physical conditioning and 3 weekends of glacier training at Saas Fee.

The Ski Race stream benefits from a further 5 half days of on-snow training in the Christmas holidays and participation in externally organised races.

The Freeride stream benefits from 6 days with a mountain guide during the Winter Term and Freeride World Tour inscription.

The VIS Ski Academy is not included in the School’s Fees.
