Esmond Tweedie joined Verbier International School as its Headmaster with 20 years of experience working in the education sector. He has a passion for education, with the belief that every decision made by a school should enable each student to be fulfilled and emboldened by their learning.
Educated at Eton College and Durham University, Esmond spent 5 years working in the financial services recruitment in London, before moving into the education sector at Oundle School, the UK’s third largest boarding school.
After seven years at Oundle, Esmond had become Head of Economics, master in charge of soccer, earned a second degree, ski instructed in Siviez and taken school trips around the world including cycle tours from Lands End to John O’Groats and Canterbury to Rome.
Esmond relocated to Switzerland in 2010, joining Aiglon College based in Villars. Since then he has developed a clear understanding and awareness of international education. As a member of the senior leadership team at Aiglon, Esmond has held responsibility for both academic and pastoral elements of the school, including management of the IB process and the student tutorial programme.
Esmond is married with three children, and as a family they enjoy all elements of Swiss alpine life; in particular, hiking, mountain biking and skiing.
As headmaster of VIS, Esmond is looking to inspire students to develop character and a love of learning both within and beyond the classroom.
