Matthew Ray BSc (Hons)
Secondary School Geography and Digital Literacy Teacher
Hailing from Penrith, England, Matthew‘s early journey led him to Villars-Sur-Ollon, Switzerland, where he has called home since 2001, where he became bilingual in French and English. With a passion for working with children, he dedicated five summers to being a counsellor and head of section at summer camps at Collège Alpin Beausoleil, a journey that began at just 18.
In the winter seasons, Matthew found himself on the slopes of Villars-sur-Ollon as a ski instructor for the red ski school, a role he fulfilled for five years. Complementing his practical experiences, he pursued an education in Environmental Geography at the University of Stirling in Scotland for four years, currently furthering his studies with a PGCE program at the University of Sunderland.
Matthew‘s global perspective was shaped over seven years as he engaged with international school life, both as a day student and a boarder at Switzerland’s Collège Alpin Beausoleil and Aiglon Collège. His journey continues as he steps into the role of graduate assistant at Verbier International School, contributing to boarding and teaching.
When leisure beckons, you’ll find Matthew seeking thrills downhill biking in mountainous terrains, carving through ski slopes, or venturing into the skies, attempting to master the art of drone flight.
