Happy Students Thrive
We believe that when students feel safe, happy, and supported, they are in the best position to succeed academically and enjoy every aspect of school life.
Pastoral care therefore sits at the heart of boarding at VIS.
Our residential team works closely with students, parents, teachers, and the wider school community to ensure that each boarder is known and supported as an individual. With six members of staff caring for approximately 45 boarders, we are able to provide a high level of personal attention and maintain strong relationships with students.
Residential staff are available throughout the day, evening, and overnight. At least two members of the residential team sleep on-site each night, ensuring that students always have an adult nearby should they need advice, reassurance, medical support, or simply someone to talk to.
Safety is supported through secure access to the boarding houses, CCTV, modern fire alarm systems, regular fire drills, and clear sign-in and sign-out procedures.
Our boarding culture is built around kindness, respect, responsibility, and looking out for one another. Students are encouraged to speak openly, ask for help when they need it, and contribute positively to the wellbeing of the wider community.
We also maintain close communication with families throughout the year, helping parents remain connected to their child’s residential life and wellbeing.
