FAQ

What curriculum does Verbier International School offer?

VIS offers an international education for students aged 3-18, with the IB pathway throughout the school and the IB Diploma Programme in the final years. Students can also follow a High School Diploma pathway in Upper Secondary.

Does VIS offer boarding?

Yes. Boarding is available for students aged 11-18. Our boutique boarding houses provide a small, family-style environment, with full-year, winter-term and other boarding options available depending on age and availability.

What makes Verbier International School different?

While many schools have a football pitch, we have Verbier. Our students benefit from small classes, personalised learning and an extraordinary Alpine environment where skiing, outdoor education, leadership and adventure become part of everyday school life.

How many students are there at VIS and what are the class sizes?

VIS is intentionally small, with fewer than 200 students representing around 35 nationalities. Classes are typically around 10-12 students, allowing teachers to know each student individually and provide highly personalised support.

What is the admissions process?

The process includes an application form, motivation letter, recent school reports, a confidential school reference and an interview, either online or in Verbier. An English assessment may also be requested where appropriate. Applications are reviewed individually by our Admissions Committee.

What sports and extracurricular activities are available?

Students can choose from around 30 activities, including skiing, mountain biking, climbing, football, horse riding, golf, volleyball, MUN, debating, Young Enterprise, rock band, coding, drones and aeronautics, Watch Lab and many more.

How much skiing do students do?

Skiing is an important part of winter life at VIS. Our location gives students exceptional access to the 4 Vallées ski area, with more than 400 km of pistes. Skiing forms part of the school programme during winter, with additional opportunities available depending on age and programme. Usually, students ski 3 times per week.

Can we visit the school before applying?

Absolutely. We strongly encourage families to visit us in Verbier whenever possible. A school visit is the best way to meet our community, explore the campus and boarding houses, experience Verbier and understand what makes VIS special.
