Ski Racing: Years 5-13
During the winter months, the mountains become an extension of the VIS classroom. In place of regular PE lessons during the week, students take to the slopes and participate in a programme suited to their ability and ambitions.
The VIS Race Programme is an additional-cost option for advanced skiers who want to develop their technical ability, improve their racing skills and experience competitive alpine skiing. The programme is more intensive than our regular winter mountain programmes, both in terms of technical training and time on snow, and students should be prepared for the level of commitment required to train and compete at this level.
Training takes place on the racing slopes of Savoleyres, with support from École Suisse de Ski Verbier’s specialist race coaches. Students train in both Slalom and Giant Slalom, working on the technique and tactics needed to ski a race course with greater precision, speed and confidence.
On-snow coaching is complemented by dedicated ski-fitness training, helping racers develop the strength, power, agility and conditioning needed for racing.
Competition is an important part of the programme. Throughout the winter, our racers aim to compete in SGIS and other interschool races, giving students the chance to put their training into practice and represent VIS. Where the number of available race places is limited, coaches will select the students who are best placed to represent the school.
VIS has a proud and growing racing tradition, highlighted by our students bringing home the Aiglon Cup last season. The Race Programme aims to build on that success, giving committed young racers the coaching, training and competitive experience they need to keep progressing.
